Aizome(藍染)is a traditional Japanese Indigo dyeing method, and Ai(indigo) is a dye that is collected from the leaves of Japanese indigo plant, and a deep blue color that is called “Japan blue”. There used to be many dyeing houses called the “someya”(染屋) in Minamiaizu.
Visitors can try out aizome dyeing for themselves at the someya where is Japanese Kominka house with a thatched roof in Okuaizu Museum.You’ll surely have a valuable experience with traditional Japanese culture that will make you feel like you traveled back in time for the day.
・This workshop is suited for beginners, and good for as memento of your trip or as souvenirs for friends back home!
・Dye your own items such as handkerchiefs using natural indigo dyes.
・Methods like “shibori” (tie-dye) , that tying items with rubber band , where you can get really creative with your design.
・Acceptable number of people :5-50 people at one time (Up to 200 people)

・Workshop fee: 1000 yen( handkerchief or “tenugui”(手ぬぐい)、1300 yen(bandana)*not included Okuaizu Museum Entrance Fee.
